MEET:

Amb. Fatima Mohammed Paga. Assistant Director General Northeast ( NAWA-Org.)

Amb. Fatima is an investigative journalist trained by the International Center for Investigative Reporting and sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation. She worked for 23 years with Yobe State Television and is currently the focal point of Unwomen to the executive Governor of Yobe State.

She is a humanitarian actor passionate about the plight of women and children, mainly about Gender Base violence, health, education, and countering violent extremism. She dreams of seeing women economically empowered and educated, and their health concerns addressed sustainably.

Originally from Bade local government area of Yobe State, she graduated from the University of Maiduguri in 2005 with sociology and anthropology degrees. In 2008, she obtained her diploma in mass communications from Bayero University Kano.

Fatima is the executive director of Brand Life Vision Foundation, a national NGO, and has been engaging in advocacy activities since 2009. She was motivated to advocate on advocacy issues by the mandate of her association of women journalists (Nawoj), of which she was a chairperson.

As a bold reporter, Fatima has been exposed to grave concerns and the plight of women and children that are not being addressed. She takes the opportunity of her journalism and reporting to highlight the issues she encounters daily in the field. Through education and other capacity-building programs carried out by the association, Fatima realizes that women are gradually getting empowered on the issues affecting their lives, particularly Gender-based violence.
She is a Master trainer on SGBV case management, having been trained by UNFPA, AHI, and International Rescue, among others.

Fatima is a professional counselor for psychosocial support and trauma healing, an interfaith mediator, and a case manager.

In 2019 Paga contested for the state assembly in the Bade West constituency in Bade LGA and became the only female who went to the level of primary elections but was unsuccessful. She was a member of the 2019 Presidential Campaign Council (election monitoring group), a member of the 2023 Presidential Campaign Council, a 2023 secretary of the Yobe State Campaign Council Women’s Wing, a Member of the Yobe State Campaign Council Women’s Wing Yobe North, State Ambassador Project 4+4 A national political group which championed the reelection bid of president Muhammad you Buhari. She was Deputy Director of General Maimala Buni House to House campaign organization, among several other presidential campaign groups.

Fatima is a Member of the Public Service Institute of Nigeria; in 2023, she was invited to a three-day summit on ethics and professionalism by the wife of President Sen Remi Tinubu. She is a peace ambassador of international standards, awarded by the Peace Ambassadors Forum of Nigeria and the National Peace Institute.

Amb. Fatima currently serves as secretary of the network of women-led organisations,member of the Women Peace and Security Network in Yobe State, member of the Nigeria Cancer Society Yobe chapter, and youth coordinator of Arewas and development support initiative (ads).
