NAWA-ORG Empowers Youth to Combat Gender-Based Violence: Advocacy at Junior Secondary School, Durumi
NAWA-ORG successfully hosted an impactful advocacy program at Junior Secondary School, Durumi, to address gender-based violence (GBV) as part of the 16 Days of Advocacy Campaign marking Beijing +30. With the theme “VOICE IT OUT,” the event, led by Director General *Dr. Amina Kundiri and moderated by Ms. Evelyn Onyilo, engaged 500 students through education, dialogue, and interactive sessions. Facilitators Hon. Mercy Inyang, Dr. Anie George, and Amb. Fatima Abdulkadir covered key topics, including GBV awareness, challenging stereotypes, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, cyber safety, legal rights, and youth advocacy. The program featured role-playing, case studies, and open discussions to equip students with practical tools to combat GBV. Attended by NAWA-ORG executives, school leaders, and media outlets, the event highlighted challenges like inadequate school furniture but succeeded in fostering solidarity, inspiring change, and affirming NAWA-ORG’s commitment to advancing women’s advancement and creating inclusive communities.
